Hi. I had my yard sodded with Empire Zoysia the end of June and it has been great.

I'm wondering if I should fertilize it before winter --Columbia, SC. I've been pouring the water to it all summer and surely that has leached out most of the nutrients that were with the sod on my sandy loam soil, but I don't want to give it a growth spurt before it goes dormant. It is showing some brown now throughout the green.

What do you think?

I have 2 zoysia lawns and live in Greenville, SC. One is meyer and the other emerald. It is really late to be fertilizing zoysia and I would not recommend it. Roughly August 31 is about the last date and that should be a very light application. You might be OK in Columbia this late, but it is not worth the risk in my opinion.
