I am desperately seeking advice on which type of Zoysia seed to plant. I live in eastern North Carolina close to Wilmington. My neighbor and I are trying to decide what type of Zoysia seed to plant for a new lawn application. I have researched and read everything I can find on the internet and I am STILL totally confused! Is there ANYONE out there willing to help us? Combined we probably have a total of 2.5 acres of lawn. Cost is definitely a factor! We can not afford to sod or plug. Seed is our most cost effective option. Can someone recommend or help clarify the benefits and negatives when comparing Zeith and Champion. We definitely want Zoysia. I have read on the forum that Zoysia is slow to green up in the spring and early to turn brown in the fall. Is Champion or Zeith better or worse in this case. Is there anyone in NC that has planted either type and can tell me about their experience? THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I recommend companion over zenith. It tends to green up a little sooner, but not as quick as bermuda would. I hydro-seed for a living and tried companion in my front yard. I have bermuda in my back yard. Next year I will have companion in my back yard. It has great texture, requires less water and stays green as long as my bermuda. I can’t answer any questions regarding your location, but in North Texas (hot and dry) it works well. I would think it would work in your area probably better than here. I hope this helps. I recommend it to my clients.

Thank for your reply Bteague,

Would you say that zoysia is higher maintenance than centipede? How fequently do you have to mow compared to centipede? My husband is getting scared of the zoysia selection since several people have told him it requires mowing more frequently than once a week. He is more of a every two weeks kind of guy! Thanks again,Pam
