Would you recommend a Zoysia grass for lower Michigan? If so, what type? I believe I have seen info that indicates some types will survive the cold weather, e.g Meyer-Z52.

you’re way too far north- it won’t be green enough, long enough.

Z52 is the only Zoysia that can grow that far north. It is rated to -30 below zero.
You can easely use Kentucky Blugrass in your state, but will not look nearly as good as Zoysia.
