I live north of San Antonio in the Hill Country and I am having problems just in the last two weeks with large brown patches in my lawn. I have an in-ground sprinkling system which I have been running three times per week in the early morning, to achieve about 3/4″ water each time. The brown patches look like dormant bermuda in the dead of winter. Am I over watering or might I have some sort of pest in the lawn?

Thanks for any help.

You could have some kind of cut worm or grubs! You can find out by taking a shovel and lifting up a section of sod (1 sq.ft)……check out just below the soil line and if you see worms (other than earth worms), its time to throw down some insecticide. 419 can also have brown spots from mower scalping! How short are you mowing? Your watering schedule sounds good……..i wouldn’t change a thing there!

I had the same problem last year – grubs. Since I live over the Edwards Recharge Zone, I used nematodes and they took care of the problem.
