I just installed a new septic tank & drywell last fall,this spring I would like to put down new grass seed the problem I have is that I can`t aford to put down topsoil at ths time,My question is this,Is there any type of grass seed I can put down that will grow in regular dirt?I`m not looking for an award winning lawn just something green.I friend told me to throw out some rye,Does this sound right?Thanks,Any help would be great, Steve

I forgot to mention that I live in Michigan,the section is about 60’x 30’in the sun most of the time,Thanks,steve

yeah, you could put down some rye. not all dirt is perfect, anywhere.

You should take a soil sample of your yard from several locations and send it to your state soil testing lab anf they will tell you what is in your soil and what it needs. It is free and takes about 3-6 weeks to find out.
