Hi
I've applied lawn fertilizer and after about 3 weeks most of my lawn practically died. I know I over fertilized it, but how much is enough? And second question: I am thinking to replace the dead grass. Do I need to neutralize the fertilizer in soil before putting new grass.

Thanks.

Did you use a spreader? What kind and what setting? What kind of fertilizer was it and what were the 3 numbers on the bag? did the grass receive any water after fertilizing?

35grams per Metre2 is good for most fertilisers but you need to ensure to wash it in. If you want american quantities then it will say it on the bag.

The fertiliser in the soil will still be present and it would be an idea to reseed and apply a little fertiliser when you see symptoms of yellowing of the turf.

Water the fertilizer in really well to wash some of it out (say an hour a day for 5 or 6 days). Then wait and see if the grass comes back.

More fertilizer is not better. Two/three light applications are better than one extra heavy application.

Good luck.

how do we know it didn't just go dormant??? need to know where you live. can't imagine a situation where the temps are so high that over fertilizing s.a. could kill it this time of year! need to know sq. ft. of grass, too and how much and what type of fert. you put down.
