I will admit first and foremost the only mystery here is the black thumb I seem to have when it comes to plants/grass (with plastic I’m just fine!). I’m in Virginia, and we had some crabgrass come into our lawn this summer and we didn’t do anything about it (I know, my fault). About a week ago I had the lawn aerated, seeded (tall fescue), and fertilized. Now the crabgrass is dead but it’s dark brown. I’m seeing the beginning of the seedlings coming through the dead crabgrass so I’m scared to dig it up but in no way are the seedlings covering the problem! What should I do?? I live in a golf course community and I think the retiree next door is about to kick my ass.

You will be fine. the crabgrass will not cause any more problems until the spring. After it is fully dried up you can rake the ‘skeletons’ out of the turf. They will probably come out when you rake leaves. The turf will fill, just be patient. You are on the right track. In the spring make sure you use Preemergent crabgrass control. As for you neighbor: take the beating like a man! Then next year buy a big dog and let it go on his lawn. That seems to piss alot of people off.

Good Luck and Take Care…
