I recently laid St. Augustine sod in my yard and there are 4 or 5 spots of brown swooshes throughout the lawn now. They are about 3 feet wide and have a smaller brown spot underneath them. The grass is already rooted well and very healthy except for these few areas…please help. Thanks

Could it possibly be fertilizer burn?

I’ve seen swoosh’s where the spreader stopped with the hopper still open and a lot of extra fert was spread in a swoosh pattern when the spreader was started again.

My only explaination……………

Possibly a fungus. Where do you live? During the winter months, the St. Augustine goes dormant…no need for water. Water will only encourage a fungus problem. If the brown patches are growing (use a stake to mark its progress) use a fungicide such as revere or compass and shut off the water and don’t fertilize. It should stop, but there’s a good chance it will start up in the spring again when you start watering again and temperatures cause dew on the grass. Main rule…if you have a fungus, do not water or fertilize until you take care of the fungus.
