Four to five foot circular, 2″ to 3″ deep, depressions are developing in four different locations in the lawn… like the ground is sinking… also, in these areas the grass blades are shorter, don’t grow as fast and are not as thick… Central Florida, St Ausgustine grass, lawn established in 1985 when the house was built among tall pine trees.
Could this be trees cut down and the stumps covered over when the house was built? Seems like a long time for the stump and roots to decay. What are your thoughts

I’d be willing to say it was stumps. Stumps take forever to decay.
Start filling with 1/3 inch of cleaned sand every week until you get it up to where you want it.
