How do I level my yard when there is already grass there? Can I ge away with laying dirt on the grass and then level or do need I to rip the grass up and level that way…. Thank you for your help.

I used plain ole sand.

It didnt harm the grass, and it did not make concrete either.

Worked well for me.

Using soil as a means of leveling your yard is quite acceptable. If you place more than about three inches of soil in an area larger that one square foot, you may want to seed the spot to cause it to fill in more rapidly. The lawn WILL grow back, it will just take longer. Also, When you use soil to level over and existing lawn, make sure that you tamp it down solidly so that you don’t continue to have uneven terrain as the soil you added settles.
