please instruct me on how to get rid of st augustine that has somehow invaded my tifgreen lawn.

Only way I know to get rid of St. Augustine is to pull it. Make sure to get the stolons (runners) and everything you can get.
This might take a while, but I do not know of any chemical that will kill the St. Augustine without killing your other grass as well.
