In my front yard, I have about 1000 sq ft of St Augustine lawn that the previous owner put in. The grass itself does not look bad at all. I have spot treated a few weeds here and there but no major problems. However, I would like to raise the level of the sod and I am trying to find out the best way to do this without resodding. I have heard that you can add sand to the lawn in several applications and the grass will eventually grow up through the sand and establish a higher base level.

Is this possible and if so, is any old white sandbox sand ok to use, or should I find a specific kind? I think that the low level is really the only problem with the lawn since the main weed I get is clover or dollar which I’ve heard is from too much water. Since the ground is low, it seems to accumulate the water easirer.

Thanks in advance.
