I live in RI and 2 weeks ago I accidentally applied Scott’s Summerguard to my lawn which is sod and was just installed last May. The grass is now turning yellow. It was much greener before I applied the fertilizer. What can I do to fix this problem or did I kill the grass? I really appreciate any help.

I doubt you have killed your grass with this fertilizer. I know it says on the bag to use in the summer, but this is because that is when most of the turf-feeding insects are going to be present. I would double check the rate you used. If the rate was too high, you may have burned it a little, but it should recuperate. Make sure the turf is getting enough water. IN the future, watering the fertilizer in for about 20 minutes should prevent turf from going off-color.

That would not be your problem, there is something else going on there. That fertilizer will not make your lawn turn yellow. Is your sod fusing well to your soil?If you tug a little on it have the roots started to take hold? Is it turning yellow like it is dying? Or are there leaf spots? It sounds like the sod is not taking hold to the soil below, and it is not watered enough. Did you have it installed by a contractor or did it your self? I would talk to your contractor. But the fertilizer is not the problem.

On my lat reply I didn’t realize you installed last May, so what I said is not relevant. The sod should be fused, watering is not the problem this time of year. It was most likely not put down at the right rate, or just a coincidence. Was it green before you applied?
