I agreed to go along with a fertilizer currently marketed at the local Lesco specifically for bermuda – 28-5-11. Because of the very high N% a little goes a long way. At a pound per 1,000, that is only 3.5 pounds per 1,000 sq ft. With only 2,000 sq feet, that is a total of only 7 pounds in the spreader, barely enough to cover the bottom, and not enough to flow well. So, 1) Fill the hopper run it out and place the remainder back in the bag, 2) put the 7# in the hopper and put a sack of sand on top to force it down, 3) or get a different spreader – currently Lesco rotary? I’d like to find a spreader designed for small loads, but the ones I have seen are kind of rinky-dink and not likey to provide a good spread/pattern.

Looking for ideas about a high quality spreader that is designed for low volume.

Thanks a lot — Buck

definitely go with the lesco spreader- when you’re done just tip the back corner closest to you back into the top of the bag- don’t try cheaper spreaders- not a quality pattern.

scotts also makes really good spreader but kind of hard to find and alot more expensive. ( not the walmart type of scotts spreader) the “bermuda” fertilizer you’re looking at is only good for bermuda if your soil test recommends using those ratios of n-p-k. need to soil test it. you can use alot more of the nitrogen on bermuda- up to 1.5 pounds of actual nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. without any problem.

Thanks for the advice Ted. Soil test recomends a ratio of 5-1-2 so this is pretty close. I’ll likely get up to 1.5# later in the spring. Beach House that I have to get back and forth to before spending the summer, so don’t need it jumping right now as I only get down on the weekends.

Had planned on using my Lesco, but thought maybe someone knew of a quality “micro” spreader.

Thanks
