Hello everybody

I live in Charlotte, NC and I purchased my house in June. I have Bermuda Sod in my front yard. When I moved in, the grass was brown. It hadn’t been watered since it was put down. After that point I watered it every other day. It got really thick and turned a nice shade of green. Since that time I have put fertilizer down 2 times as well as some palletized lime. I don’t think water is a big issue at this time with all the rain that we have had here.

At this time my grass has turned brown again, and it looks horrible. I’m a young guy and don’t know much about different types of grasses and how each should be treated. So I basically treated it like the grass at my old home, (in northern North Carolina) which was probably a mix of everything.

After reading many topics on the site, I think I can relate my brown grass to several things….

1. My grass is too high. I’ve always liked the look of thick grass with the edges crisp along the side walk. I’ll say I kept my grass cut at or around 5”. From what I’ve seen here, I should keep it cut at .5”-1”.2. I’ve probably added to much nitrogen to the grass (I put the palletized lime on the yard about 3 weeks ago).3. I use a standard gas push mower instead of a real mower.

Now, my questions are: is there anything I can do to revive my lawn before it goes dormant for the winter? Should I put any type of fertilizer on it in the mean time? Should I just take this as a loss until the spring?

When spring comes back around what should I do, what should I feed the lawn and how often? Will it still be possible to cut with the mower that I currently have at its lowest setting (since I have some other type of grass growing in my back and side yards)? and what’s the highest i can let it grown?

What would you do in my present situation……..

here are some present pictures of my grass

All feedback is welcome…

Thanks
