How do you prevent mushrooms?

What makes them pop up in the first place?

How do you get rid of them?

I’m not an expert, but my experience has been that when moisture is high for an extended period of time, mushrooms can appear. Either from extended rain coupled with cooler temperatures during the spring or summer, or frequent watering without time for the water to evaporate or soak into the ground in between waterings. Mushrooms tend to grow in the mulch around my trees and flowerbeds, or in close proximity. I think time and dryness will make them go away. I just knock them over and they dry out and don’t come back. Don’t let kids or dogs eat them.

Moisture is the key. They pop for me when we have at least two days of rain, little sun light and the right temps. There are literally tens of thousands of mushroom species that invade lawns and gardens. A guy in college is doing a huge research project collecting samples, IDing them and cataloging them. Organic matter is where they come. We have a tee at the course that got severe Fairy Ring in the summer months. We aerated, and did a soil drench of ProStar, to break the cycle. That was three years ago and one treatment worked! Not sure how to stop the others.

Take Care….
