How tall will St Aug grass get in full sun vs. Shade?

I notice the grass next to the house is almost a foot high and the grass in the yard “N. side” is 6 or so inch and the “S. Side” is what seems 3. New yard so…. But if I let the grass just grow will the entire yard get a foot high or more? Will it be green and lush?

The tallest St Augustine I’ve seen is growing next to a condo on Mustang Island in Texas. It is growing in the gulf dunes and is artificially supported by a reedy type of grass that has died but remains upright. The St Aug is about 18 inches high but the blade itself is only the top about 8-12 inches. It has been growing that way for at least 10 years without attention as it escapes from the condo to the dunes. So for grass that is not supported, I would guess 8-12 inches would be the longest.

A couple years ago, my next door neighbor went a full year without mowing her St Aug and it got between 8-12 inches, so that could be it.
