I’m new to Texas, living in Austin. My lawns are Bermuda – that much I’ve established. As I mow them, I notice clumps of much broader and longer grasses. I know St. Augustine by sight, and I’m pretty sure they’re not it.

I’m letting them grow long, to make ID easier. But when I cut them back, I can see that the root area is a tight mass of thick green – almost impossible to get over with my low-set push (entirely manual) cylinder mower.

Can anyone help ID this stuff, and suggest a cure?

Uhhhhhh…….

Why are you letting it grow in the first place? Pull ’em out! or kill it with 20% vinegar (organic alternative to roundup)

I don’t plan to *keep* letting it grow 🙂 But I wanted to know what it was first. Do you know what it is?

(BTW, there’s a wee magnifying glass above those Flickr pictures that will bring up a much bigger view)

My guess is that it looks like DALLISGRASS…Roundup is the only solution.
