my mother’s garden is full of old rhodedendrons, fruit trees, various other bushes including an elk’s horn and japanese maple… she also has a plot set aside to vegetables… unfortunately she has not had the time or energy to care for it properly and it has become severly infested with weeds of all kinds (i had to save some of the rhodes from bindweed)

any tips would be much appreciated!! thanks

Hire some labor to thin out the bulk of the weeds……and then apply pre-emergent herbicide under trees and shrubs.(there are many available at your garden center). The vegetable area can be tilled under- leveled and then kept wet so as to germinate weed seeds in the soil. Once the weeds are up and lush- spray ‘Round up’.
