I posted earlier about yellow patches on my lawn. Well, they turned red and I have since identified it as red thread. I’ve applied Scott’s anti-fungus product and am just wondering if there’s anything else I can do…will it just go away and fill in with green grass?

I’ve stopped watering it for a little while to allow it to dry out as well. The recent storms we’ve gotten here in Detroit have provided ample water for sustaining the healthy grass.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you need professional strength fungicides. call a local pro

I actually did and they say they just use Bayer fungicide. Is Bayer stronger than Scotts?

Yes!

which fungicide?

GrassMaster – posted 19 May 2004 18:03

I just fertilized with a 28-3-3 Scott’s Turfbuilder…should I wait a while before putting on the Bayer fungicide? I was thinking of maybe doing it Saturday morning.

No need to wait. But what type of Bayer fungicide. Probably Bayleton? Good stuff. Up here red thread is not normally treated with fungicides, we usually let a little fert help the plant to outgrow the fungus. Try using the fert and a few days later see if the red thread is effected. Up here we consider red thread a cosmetic disease and not a turf threatening disease. Is it worse on warm season turf?

Good Luck…..

Where’s up-here? I’m in Detroit…so we might have the same climate you do.

I fert’ed yesterday…nothing doing yet…I’m going to wait till Saturday and drop the fungicide just for fun and see what happens. But considering I hadn’t fert’ed since the beginning of April, it was probably due for a fert anyway.

I’m in Southern NJ. Sorry I lost track of the thread. I’m so used to hearing about warm season grasses. Anyway, is the fungicide Bayleton? If so its a systemic and doesn’t get watered in.

You should be fine after the fert.

Good Luck……..
