I recently discovered that when I walk across my yard a a black residue on my feet. The grass looks pretty-much health, dark green even. I have heard that this is common with centipede but when I called the sod farm they were unaware of this being an issue related to centipede. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be? I can’t see any visual mold on the grass.

Some times if too much iron is applied you will find a black residue in the grass this is not particularly bad it just means that all of the iron wasnt utilized I’m just stabbing in the dark you said you lawn is really green and iron is essential in the formation of chloryphyl (the compound which makes grass green)

Thanks – I recently spread out some Centipede lawn fertalizer & though some additional iron would be great so I also put “Ironite” on it also. The fertalizer had iron in it too so I could have possibly put too much on it & that is what I am seeing. I will be patient to see if it goes away. Thanks again
