I live in Dallas Texas and have a Bermuda grass lawn. Recently I’ve noticed bare/thinning area where there are small white thin spongy areas directly on the soil where there is no grass. Does anyone know what this could be and how to get rid of it?

Thank you! By the way,… it’s near a semi-shaded area of the lawn too.

By the way… I have have a digital picture of it if anyone wants me to send it to them. Thanks!

I seem to be following Todd around the Internet with this question. For the benefit of those who have not seen his question before, I’ll answer here, too.

Ordinary corn meal, applied at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet of turf, will kill most all fungal turf diseases. It works by attracting a beneficial fungus to kill the disease fungus.

Ordinary corn meal can be found at feed stores in 50-pound bags for about $6.50.

Corn meal is also a great organic fertilizer. If you use it at a rate of 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet every 90 days, you should never have fungal disease again – and your turf should be dark green, dense, and beautiful.
