I seeded my lawn at the beginning of the summer. Just recently I have noticed that my lawn has an orange dust all over it! When you walk on it, it gets on your shoes and pants, but you can easily wipe it off. It doesn’t have an odor, it just makes a mess! Any clues??? Thank you!!confused from Michigan

You have a “rust” fungus infesting your new grass. Do a web search for “puccinia” and you will find the answers you need. Penn State has a good website and can instruct you on the proper course of action. Otherwise, fertilize your new lawn soon.

We have an orange dust on our back lawn that is approx. 20×40 feet. It “poofs” into the air as you walk thru it and gets all over my shoes and pant legs. My wife is very ill and in the hospital. Is this stuff the cause? Is it toxic? I have never seen anything like it before. Please respond as soon as possible. bdbc1@aol.com
