I planted 55,000 sq.ft. of centipede about three weeks ago at just under 1 lb per 1000 sq.ft. I used a straw blower to blow about 45 bales of wheat straw on the yard, which wasn’t really yo steep except in one area in the back. I went to look at the yard today and was not too enthused at what I saw. It has had a couple of hard rains on it including one which laid down 4 inches and it appears that the yard washed in many places. I didn’t see a lot of grass germinating. Of course the owner is concerned that he has wasted a lot of money. The brochure says that most lawns take time… Should I go ahead and redo or overseed the lawn or give it more time? Any advise would be helpful!

Last year I put out 1/3 acre of centipede seed and watered it everyday for 4 weeks. Nothing came up, but we got a lot of rain last year.

Finally, in October I noticed a few clumps of the grass. Then, this spring, there was a lot of grass in the wetter spots of the laws (under the eves were the morning dew drips, etc). Now there are many clumps of the grass and they’ve all put out 3′ runners! I planted another 1/2 acre of seed this year but with the NO rain we’ve gotten and my inability to water it more than twice a week, I don’t think any of that will make.

Centipede: 1st year is sleeps, 2nd year it creeps, and, so they say, 3rd year it leaps. We’ll see about year 3.
