I just bought a new house here in Northeast Georgia that had bermuda sod in the front yard. I was wondering what the best mowing height for this grass is? When we moved here the grass was being cut in the 2.5 inch range buy the builder, and I have since slowly dropped my blade down to 1 3/4 inches. I notice when i cut that some spots seem to be brown after I mow them, i guess where i am cutting into the stem. Should I just keep mowing at this height or slowley keep lowering the blade down to 1-1.5 inches. I am going to buy a snapper rear engine rider and I think that the lowest setting is 1.5 inches. Right now i have been using my Honda push mower, and I have a little more flexability with blade height with it. The yard is just so big that i wanted to get a rider if possible. Thanks for any information.

You’re probably just cutting the lawn down to a height it isn’t used to. What I’d do if I was you would be to cut the grass one time at the lowest possible setting. Then, raise the deck height 1/4″ or 1/2″ and leave that setting for the rest of the summer.

Bermuda likes being cut low. It’ll form a very dense turf if you keep it cut that way.
