I received an estimate to resod my back yard and decided to do it myself. The problem was large areas of crabgrass had taken over the Floretam. The original owners had it resodded approximately two years before. I rented a sod cutter to remove the large areas of crabgrass, and I am sure it is crabgrass. I didn’t know anything about soil preparation or anything. I had some irrigation work down in the yard and where the guy pulled up my week old new grass, he said there was signs of the crabgrass coming back. I must have gone about this the wrong way and need some help. I don’t want the crabgrass to take over the yard again. Please help.

The correct way is to kill everything in the yard with a non-selective herbicide,possibly “ROUND-UP”.I suggest one application,followed by another about 10 days later.This will kill everything it touches ,so be careful.After that,plant with clean sod,and follow a good herbicide program.Floratam might not be your best choice,but is usually cheaper.

I am wanting to know if I can leave the new Floretam sod down and treat with something so the old crabgrass roots still existing under the sod won’t grow through.
