Is rolling the sod after laying it mandatory, or will it do just as well with it? I could pay for it to be done if someone has had experience with rolling it and not rolling it?

Thanks,G.G.

A light rolling (i.e, a 100-200 pound load) will help the sod make full contact with the soil–which is needed for roots to grow into the soil.

I just laid empire zoysia and I didnt roll it, and its rooting like crazy. I rolled the first 4 pallets several months ago and I think the last 4 pallets that I didnt roll actually started rooting quicker.

Thanks for the information. The people that laid the sod didn’t have a barrel to roll it, and I didn’t know it until it was too late. But, for information, for anyone else, it was laid last Friday, and has been watered very well by me, and two days of medium rain, and it is very green and seems to be doing well. I did have a lot of screened top soil spread before it was laid and it also was watered well. I checked it as I was told, after 3 days and saw tiny white roots, so I knew something I had done was right!!

You can roll sod any time that you think it needs it
