I have several grasses in my lawn including multiple bermudas and some fescue. We prefer the fescue, although there is not much of it. Is it possible to have it take over the others? I’d roundup and start again, but fear weeds taking over as they have done along fencelines when I have done this.

PS – Northern Alabama

roundup it all out in late september in your market, then reseed with fescue.

I planted some fescue over bermuda by seed in a shady portion of my backyard. The fescue grows higer than the bermuda and shades it out. My results have been really good and have yielded a nice green lawn almost year round.

I think that if you have any sun at all, the bermuda is going to keep the fescue at bay , and in fact, keep spreading. I wonder if you have hybrid burmuda (like tifway 419) or common bermuda. These hybrid bermudas are really tough – I have never really seen anything take them over in the full sun. Maybe the common bermuda is not as tough. The round up option sounds best in spite of the reservations.
