last fall my myer zoysia looked picture perfect. i now have one spot thats completely dead after the winter. I did fertlize in the fall with 13-13-13. so i fertlized it two weeks ago and now i have all kinds of spots that are dying looks like i have bernunda growing in it due to rusty brown tops with seeds and looks like the grass blades are drawing up into real skinny blades. Can anyone help?

What’s your location?

Zoysia doesn’t handle over fertilization well… Call your extension agent and s/he’ll give you some pointers on how to fight off brown spot or whatever disease your lawn is facing.

In the future only apply fertilizer twice a year to your zoysia. Once in late spring, once in mid-late summer. Each time, do the math and only apply 1 lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sf, and you’ll be happier with your lawn. That means a 50 lb bag of 40% ammonium nitrate would do both applications for a 10,000 sf lawn…

Alternately, with 10-10-10, a 40 lb bag would make both applications on a 6,500 sf lawn.

With zoysia, a little fertilizer goes a long way.
