The lady I am purchasing 23 pallots of St. Agustine from told me that if I burn my yard with roundup 10 days prior to laying the sod that the sod would take and be fine. I spoke to someone else recently who HIGHLY suggested that I take up all the old stuff and lay the sod on fresh dirt. What is the proper way to do it? Will my grass survive if I chose to lay it over the old grass/weeds/dirt/etc? PLEASE ADVISE!!! I am new to be a homeowner and have no clue on grass. THANKS!!

It depends on your situation. Removing the old stuff ,tilling, grading, liming, then using Round-up after weed germination ,etc.is certainly the best(but way more money and time). But I have done it the other way with good results. You will be happier if old grass is removed,I think.

I too am a recent homeowner in Atlanta. I had a mixture of grass and weeds so during the past 2 weeks, I’ve sprayed Round Up and killed the weeds and grass. I’m going to rent a tiller $30, till it up and then Fertilize, seed and flatten…I’ve spoken to several ppl who have said the grass will survice. Round up doesn’t attack the soil, it attacks the grass and roots it origionally touched. Billy P
