I recently moved to Florida and hate this thick bladed, weedy looking grass that is obviously the sod of choice around here. Every lawn from Tampa down seems to have it.I am hoping to find a soft carpet type of grass that will grow and thrive here in North Port. Any suggestions??

There is a reason your neighbors all use the same grass, because it grows well in the area.Probably a St.Augustine type, like 90 percent of us use here.Without knowing more facts,I would suggest asking your County Extension Agent if anything else will work there.

Various kinds of hybrid bermuda are the finest textured for your area. ‘Tifway 419’ has a beautiful texture ,and is fairly low maint. Check with your local sod grower for the best bermuda for your needs.
