We live in the central Florida area and are getting estimates for a new Floratam St. Augustine lawn to be installed. The estimators have given me differing opinions about whether using a muck-based or sandy loam Floratam is better. One says that the muck based will cause fungus and the other says that he has seen the sandy loam based lawns die (I guess they don’t hold water as well). We are leaning towards the muck base, but would love some input from the experts here.

I would have go with whatever my soil is closer too. Muck or sand. If I were going to resod my lawn I would try to match the imported sod to the soils that the sod would be growing in. That way you have the best shot at the turf rooting properly.

As always I would get a soil test and properly prepare my soil in preparation for the sod. making sure that the pH was corrected.

Good Luck…….
