I’m hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a problem with my St Aug grass.
I’ve noticed that the stolons, or runners, are all on top of the grass surface, and not at the soil level. Many areas are also very thin.
This lawn was sodded 1 year ago (May 2003) by the home builder. Being very new to this, I was having it cut very short all last summer which I’ve since learned is a bad thing. It also wasn’t getting any good watering, either. Could last summer’s mistakes be the reason for the problems I’m having now?
What can I do to turn this around, if anything.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Most parts of my yard are still pretty thinly covered with St. Augustine. I take the long runners on top and either ‘weave’ them into existing grass or make wire ‘staples’ to hold some of the root nodules at ground level until they root. If your lawn is thick and heathy, just mow.Bill

just turn them downward and push them into the soil, raise the mower and water…it’ll work itself out
