Does anyone have experience with Quickstand sod? I live in St. Louis MO and have lots of clay soil and not many trees. Someone recommended a Quickstand sod because it’s drought resistant and will do okay with clay. Most people around here use Fescue, but I know it takes lots of watering and we have 2 acres and we can’t afford the $500+/month water bills that Fescue would require to start and to continue. I know the Quickstand would take a lot of water in the beginning, but ongoing maintenance would be easier and more affordable. I think Quickstand is a type of Bermuda that will withstand our cold winters. Is this okay to use in the St. Louis area? Does it turn brown in the fall, winter? Is it a pretty durable sod?

quickstand is a bermuda. it will not stand up to the winters in your area, any bermuda will turn brown in cooler temps, say in the 60’s. fescue is your choice. i’m wondering if you can afford to sod 2 acres, why you couldn’t water it? i think you’re overestimating your watering needs. i don’t think you’re anywhere near $500 a mo. on watering! a lot of folks in your area will install a waterwell and use the underground water to irrigate the lawn. you might also try seeding with fescue in the fall. there’s no difference between seed and sod, sod just grew up.
