I’ve read that it’s not always a good idea to till before laying sod because it may encourage new weeds. I plan to sod soon and was planning to use round up twice on my yard, check the pH, till, then sod. Do you guys think tilling would a bad idea for any reason? Thanks. BTW, I live in Jacksonville, FL and plan to sod with Palmetto St. Augustine.

Hank,Tilling has its Place. Mostly vegetable gardens, Ha Ha HA. Seriously, after you test and it is decided that you need extensive rootzone amending, then till in the soil amendments. If your soil is in relatively good shape (pH, Organic Matter, etc.)tilling will bring up many weed seeds. If your soil is compacted, I would recommend aerating to loosen the soil up and then sodding. Also, make sure that all old thatch and debris is removed. And by all means Roll the sod to ensure soil contact.

Good luck and watch your back. Keep us posted.
