Looking for opinions on Sea Isle Grass.

Is it as plush as the dealer says?

Will it survive with only full sun in morning and full shade from 1pm on?

I’m in Austin and intended use is near swimming pool. Most of the area is 100% sun but there is a small patch near the base of the house that will get sun from 7am to 1pm but after that 0% direct sun.

i’ve been in business for 20 years- what’s sea isle grass? sounds like a marketing name.

ok, ok. it’s a relative of dallisgrass being in the paspalum family. it’s more suited toward salt water, beachy type settings. don’t recommend it for Austin- go with bermuda. you’re pretty dry there- definitely not salt water grasses in your mix. reminds me of the buffalograss craze a few years back. these “low maintenance” grasses tend to be lackluster in terms of performance.

It’s spelled SeaIsle 1, listed as a seashore paspalum and is being grown by Turfgrass America in San Antonio. It’s not being touted as a “low maintenance” grass but rather one that is plush and and simply looks good. First thing that caught my attention are the characteristics that match my envirnment of a salt water Swimming Pool I’m putting in that will have two high traffic areas.

Characteristics

EXELENT* Full Sun * Salt Water Tolerent* Weare Resistant * Injury recovery* Drought Tolerance

Moderate* Cold Tolerance* Seedhead Formation

I have sprinkers so drought is not a problem.

I wanted to get the best looking grass possible as it’s an area I intend spending a lot of time maintaining. Would like to hear any other suggestions beyond the typical Tif and St. Augustine.

Thanks for the advise. Nick

yeah, i don’t think it’s original intention was to be used in your climate. i’ve never seen it in houston, and that’s more of it’s setting. check out some university websites on seaisle. you’ll probably get a larger picture than the one you’re getting from the dealer- also look around the neighborhood at other successful lawns. if you don’t see this stuff around, there’s probably a reason for it!
