The former property owner was a big vegetable gardener, devoting the entire back half of the property to vegetable beds. I am not as big a vegetable gardener, and would like to level the ground. THe problem is that grass has taken over, so I cannot simply move dirt around, and I am hesitant to add more sand or topsoil in an attempt to level it.

Rent a core aerator and run it all over the uneven area. Then sweep the cores around. They will naturally move to the low spots. When they dissolve, they will raise the level of the low spots where they landed. Do that as often as you need to and your surface will level itself out.
