My family is moving into a house in Arlington, Tx. The backyard has no grass at all. It is highly shaded, I have looked at a lot of the messages posted in the past and I am very confused as to which grass to choose. Can someone please help me make an informed decision?

Hey I live in Arlington TX. you could try fescue… Also there’s a mix at home depot, it’s called “dallas/ft worth mix” it’s mainly fescue but some other seeds are mixed it. I think it’s by scotts.

no grass grows in 100% shade- thin the trees out selectively and help the trees as well as the grass. fescue might be your choice- it’s used somewhat in dfw- it’s just a little far south for it.

My St Augustine is growing in 90% shade. It might not grow up against the house on the north side but I sure have a lot of shade from a canopy of live oak trees. I have four of them, 30 years old, in 2,000 square feet of turf. All my neighbors have basically the same thing. Our neighborhood is referred to as “the woody area.” Squirrels can roam from block to block without ever coming down from the trees.
So my vote is for St Augustine.
