In late August I put down some fertilizer, then in mid-September I aerated, seeded, and fertilized again. My Fescue took off nicely as the temps cooled off here in North Carolina. A month later, it looks like the fertilizer is fading. The color isn’t as dark and the growth is a bit slower.

Whenever I do a quick nitrogen test on the soil, it always comes back very low. Is it normal to get about a month out of the fertilizer? Something like this happened in the spring when I seeded. I’m thinking of fertilizing again to encourage really good growth.

I too live in NC. The state suffered from a great deal of rainfall over the last few months which probably did wash your fertilizer away. I was told to wait until October to do any major yard work. It’s the better month as far as weather.Just because the package says the time is right doesn’t make it so. I haven’t done my yard yet. My intention is to be out seeding, fertilizing and doing basic clean-up this weekend. My luck has been good so far. I have a beautiful yard plush green grass. I’ve lived by this for over ten years. All I can tell you is this has not failed me. Good Luck on your yard.
