i am landscaping my new home but it is too late to sow bermuda grass. Would I be creating too many problems if I planted ryegrass and then the bermuda in the spring? Will I need to kill the rye before seeding the bermuda or should I just avoid the situation entirely and be patient for spring?

Unless you live in Tucson or Laredo, it is about 3 months too late to seed bermuda. It needs hot days and nights to get good counts on germination. Wait until next June for bermuda seed.

If you are in a warm place, the rye will die out long before the bermuda seed sprouts. If you're not in a warm zone, you probably should look at something else besides bermuda.
