it is a drain on my wallet and a source of great frustration, but when it looks good it is a wonderful thing…….

for me, it provides a wonderful surface for my toddler to run around in barefoot.

There’s nothing better for the “floor” of my backyard.

Grass keeps the dust down, holds soil in place during rains, gives insects a place to live, provides food for animals (and insects), and the green color and texture seem to be soothing to many of us. It also provides sugar to the tens of thousands of microbes living in the soil. Living or dead, grass provides shade for the soil to keep it cool and help stop “weed” seeds from sprouting. The shade also keeps the soil temperatures cooler allowing the microbes to thrive.

If you want to see some examples of places where grass has been killed off, look at the Sahara and Gobi deserts. The entire climate of the world is being affected by the growing size of the world’s deserts.
