I am trying to locate this type of sod for my S.CA home but have been having no luck at all. It seems most of the sod farms are located back east and according to one website, it is illegal to ship this sod to Calfornia and Nevada. Have no idea why. Anybody got any ideas?

Have you checked in with the horticulture folks at Cal Poly in Pomona? They should be able to tell you if it is a good grass for SoCal. If it is, they might even sell it.

wsrfr: I hope you are able to locate some Emerald Zoysia sod. I used to have it on my front yard when I lived in Atlanta and it was beautiful. I’d cut it down low like a putting green using a reel mower (a must for manicuring zoysia or bermuda) and it was absolutely like a carpet. People would actually stop their cars in front of my house and get out to touch the grass. While the grass was fairly high maintenance I thought it was worth it given the appearance. Good luck.

Also, be aware – there are now several zoysia options which have a more open growth pattern and DO NOT require a reel mower (toro, zenith, empire – empire is really becoming a front runner). Check with Sod Solutions on their web site for a grower near you.

All require less maintenance than emerald.

I purchased Emerald at Super Sod in Greenville. Super Sod has locations all over SC. Check for a location in your area at www.super-sod.com.

I live in North ALABAMA and used Emerald zoysia sod 2 years ago in new house yard. Its now thick and beautiful but I have a few spots of Common Bermuda that I want to remove. I tried digging it up but just can’t get it all. I have researched chemicals and heard the FUSILADE mixed at 1 % will kill Bermuda and not harm Emerald Zoysia. Would appreciate any comments and experience with using Fusilade.
