Okay I am in dire need of re-establish my lawn. Prior to the drought, and massive dog trampling, it was a St. Augustine lawn.

I am trying to see which route I should go, as what type of grass to plant.

I live in N. Texas. The yard is 80% shaded by a couple of tall Pecan Trees. I have two large dogs who spend 40% of the time outside running around the yard. It is 80% dirt now. I want to have a lawn that will tolerate the Texas summers, as well as the some times frosty winters, with good watering. One that keeps it’s green color longer, and will grow thick and lush. Also it should be able to tolerate medium traffic. I would also like to find the most economical one to establish and keep up.

All advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

In my experience, St. Augustine is more durable than most other grasses. It can thrive in the shade, and also in the sun. The blades are so much thicker on St. Augustine than any other grass, this makes it less likely to wear off once it has established. Lots of water is needed with a good 6 or 7 fert. applications. I hope this gives you some info!
