I tried planting Amazoy plugs this spring and most died. Also, I have about an acre to plant and 2000 plugs about killed me (so forget another 8000 or more).

My online research tells me Zosia seeds for either Zenith or Companion are a good choice (over buffalo grass or bermuda) as I have some shade and I don’t want to water much or mow more than every 2 weeks if possible.

Opinions as to which I should plant this coming spring? I live in the Dallas, Tx area, btw.

Thank you,

Seeding is the right thing for you to do, plugs is too labor intensive, and sod is probably a lot of $$$ for 1 acre.

I heard and read that Companion Zoysia seed germinates much quiker than Zenith. It’s also darker green, greens up earlier in the Spring, finer leaf texture, and holds its color longer in the fall.

I’m going over to one of my neighboor’s house to see his 1 year old seeded Zenith Zoysia backyard. I’ll be taking some pictures.

Meyer Zoysia is also an awesome variaty, but you can’t get seeds unfortunately.

Cary, have you noticed that that person posted in 2002? 3 years later and you posted it?

I’m growing zenith zoysia in small enclosed area for an experiment. It was easier than I though despite all those frequent watering. It’s been 2 weeks and plently of seeds have sprouted. not bad. That’s interesting about Companion.. I happened to came across Zenith at Walmart. yes WALMART! Not at Lowes, Home Depot or anywhere else. Wierd, huh?

They’re doing great. Thanks for asking.

A lot better than I expected. The color is pretty good, heck a lot better than my bermuda lawn. I like them alot.

Cary isn’t correct about companion being better or thinner blades. I checked them out on NTEP website and i can say that Zenith is best overall seeded variety. at least for now.
