In another Lawn Care Forum that i visit, I have read about the virtues of organic approcahes to lawn care. Corn Gluten Meal has received considerable chat as a fertilizer and pre-emergent weed control. Alfalfa pellets are considered a safe fertilizer. Compost and compost teas also receive considerable chat. What’s your thoughts and opinions on organic lawn care? (My apologies if I have offended anyone on this Forum since I have not read a lot of chat about an organic approach to lawn care in this Forum. I’m a new guy in this neighborhood / Turfgrass Forum.)

I feed (soaked, mushy) alfalfa pellets to my horse. Recently I found that some feed stores carry dehydrated alfalfa meal – basically what the pellets are made of. It’s very fine and dusty, and would be easier to spread than the pellets. It comes in 50# sacks for about $8-12. The feed store told me that rose gardeners are their main buyers, and that it’s high in nitrogen (alfalfa is a legume). I haven’t tried using it on my lawn… at least, not until it’s been run though the horse. Anyway, you might prefer the powder to the pellets.
