Can anyone refer me to a place in the Atlanta area that sells sod for a decent price. I'm looking for Champion Bermuda, which is a hybrid.

md,

I am a St. Augustine man personally (because of its lower temperature dormancy traits), but I can help you get started on your search. Check out: http://www.bermudagrass.com/

First off if its cheap its for me! I went to sodatlanta.com . They've got a # you can call to get the cutting schedule at their sod farms for bermuda, fescue, etc. You go out talk to the guy on site and he lets you follow behind the sod cutting crew and get the sod that is not cut to the proper dimensions(whatever that is) there is a lot of good sod and a lot of plug type scraps that will fill in. I filled my f150 to the gill for 35 bones. Hope this helps.

I need to sod my back yard with bermuda. It has a lot of Ga. red clay. Could this just be tilled up and sodded or would I need to have top soil brought in?
Thanks

Sod Atlanta www.sodatlanta.com and Legacy Farms are both good companies to work with and are located in Cartersville.

North Georgia Turf (www.northgeorgiaturf.com) is a good resource in Carrollton.

None of these vendors carry the bermuda variety you're looking for. I've never heard of it.

For the person asking about bermuda on a tilled red clay soil, it'll do fine as long as it gets full sun, although it never hurts to add soil amendments.

Buck Jones Nursery is a great place to get sod in Atlanta. Their prices are very fair (they have them listed on their website at BuckJones.com). They deliver to most of the North Georgia area.

whoa whoa whoa.
Are you sure you want 'Champion' bermudagrass?
Is this for a homeowner or in a professional turf site?

Champion is more than a hybrid bermudagrass, it's an ultradwarf variety used exclusively on golf course greens, requiring pretty intense management.

If this is intended for homelawn use, i'd reconsider the variety.

If this is for golf use, good luck managing the 'champion' anyway, as the ultradwarfs are finicky beasts.
