Aloha I live in hawaii and in the process of planting a new lawn for my new house. My yard is approximately 3000 square feet and I plan on planting Z3 a type of Zoysia grass that is very popular in hawaii. I was wondering if there was another name for this type of grass because I’ve been looking at different web sites and can’t find any information on it. Any type of feedback would be very helpful. Thank You.

I believe that Z3 is a proprietary product of Quality Turfgrass in Waimanalo, Oahu. It may have been licensed for use on the mainland as Zoyboy, but there would be only one source in Hawaii. El Toro zoysiagrass has reportedly done well in Hawaii also.
Any movement of plant material to Hawaii must undergo lengthy and extensive phytosanitary screening by the Department of Agriculture, to prevent importation of nematodes, mites, and other destructive pests.
