I hope I’ve given you enough information to help.

Which was is the better/faster way to establish a centipede lawn…

Completely starting over or sewing the seed among the existing grass? I don’t want to completely start over unless I have to.

I am in Oconee County, SC northwest corner, zone 7. Our yard has been established for 28 years and is in need of repair in the worst way. We have purchased 5# of centipede and I need to know the best way to proceed.

The front faces west with 15 yr old dogwood trees next to the road, (our garden is across the road so there are no shade trees to shade the hot afternoon sun in summer) oak trees on the south side and a driveway separates the woods from the yard on the north. The front is flat with a slope on the south and east sides.

The back faces east with a very small “yard” and then a patch of oak trees that meets the oak trees on the south side. It is mostly moss at this time.

Originally,(our spot was totally woods)we cleared an area for the yard and planted grass everywhere. The grass under the oaks that we left just wouldn’t grow, so I’ve since turned that area into a “natural” state with chips and leaves underneath.
