With the watering restrictions that are in place throughout the metro area, I’m concerned about planting winter rye and not being able to water it enough to germinate or even stay looking green if it does. Right now, we can only water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but that may decrease if we don’t get rain. Should I even plant this year?

Keep an eye on 10 day weather forcasts. You may get lucky and get a forcast of a week long rainy period…..which would be enough to get good germination, and from that point on, 2 water days a week may be adequate – (especially in cool fall weather.)

Please give readers an idea where you are, northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere, country, and state or province.

Sorry…we’re in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas. Since posting, we had an inch or more of rain in the area, but that may be it for a while.
